Artists' Book Cornucopia IV, Feb 23

CALL FOR Entries - Artists' Book Cornucopia IV. Eligible are any artists' bookworks with the exception of Self Published on Demand books. There are no restrictions regarding when the work was completed or whether it has been exhibited previously.

Entries will be juried by Mary Murphy, Visual Resources Librarian at SCAD Atlanta. Prizes: Up to $1500 in exhibition and purchase awards. All accepted works will be included in both an online and print exhibition catalog. Accepted bookworks will be on exhibit from April 19 - June 2, 2013. Call for Entries  
Theme: A national juried show of handmade artist books–editions or one-of-a-kind–sculptural, traditionally bound, book objects, altered books and broadsides are encouraged.  This show is open to a wide interpretation of the theme – tell a story or expose hidden layers; reveal emotions or make us laugh – truth or fiction.  You choose!
Jurors & Awards Cash awards will be given for first, second, and third place entries.  All submissions are juried by Linda Piacentini-Yaple, Sandy Anderson & Pat Clark
Submission Guidelines: Artist books, sculptural books, traditionally bound books, book objects, altered books and broadsides are accepted. All work should include text, image, printed by hand, letterpress, digitally or calligraphy techniques. No on-demand books please (Shutterfly, Lulu, Blurb, etc)
  • Atelier 6000 reserves the right to refuse artwork that does not match the quality of the digital image submitted for jurying.
  • Artists may submit 1-3 works for consideration.
  • Wall hung artwork should be suitable for hanging: No shrink wrap. Artworks will be presented in the manner they are received.
The handling of books enhances the appreciation for the art. Hand wipes and gloves are provided for the audience with information regarding proper handling and viewings are supervised. If your book is an edition, you are welcome to send a display copy.
Entry Fee $35 non-refundable fee covers up to three works.  It is not a per work fee. International Artists, the entry fee must be paid in US currency.
Sales: All artworks entered must be for sale. All work is sold on consignment. The artist receives 60% of the sale price. Sale proceeds will be paid to the artist within 45 days of the close of the show.
Marketing: Press kits will be sent to local and regional traditional media.  The exhibit will be publicized in Atelier
6000’s newsletter, website and on Facebook. Award winners will be featured.  E-cards will be sent to participants after the jury process for your own marketing.
Digital image guidelines:
* 300 dpi; JPEG file format; with the broadest dimension being no larger than 1500 pixels
* Up to three images per book
* Your photographs are used to curate the exhibition.
* Images must be clearly titled with artist name, title of artwork, media and size. i.e. Alan Jones_Standing Tall_#1_Altered Book_6.5 x 4.0  If sending more than one image please change the number after the title of the book.
Shipping: All shipping must come through FED EX. Shipping and insurance costs to and from the gallery are the responsibility of the artist. Work received by mail should be packaged well enough to be returned in the same carton. Include a pre-paid FED EX return postage slip within your package.

Papers! Please! Conference, April 2, 2013

During the month of October 2013, members of the Friends of Dard Hunter will join together in St. Louis, Missouri for Papers! Please! a conference hosted by Washington University and Webster University, with a four day pre-conference hosted by The Craft Alliance. The conference events and activities will include an array of workshops and demonstrations, lectures, exhibitions, and museum tours.

The role paper plays in the creation of our identities as individuals and communities will be a focus of the conference, with discussion about the interconnectivity between art, craft, and theory. Proposals
Deadline: April 2, 2013

Presentations
Proposals can be a one person talk (20 minutes) or a panel of presenters (40 minutes). If you are proposing a panel, please indicate the panel moderator and up to three panel presenters. Special consideration will be given to presentations that focus on the conference theme. Proposals should be no more than 500 words, describing the topic to be discussed and its relevance to the papermaking community. Submit proposals as an attachment to friendsofdardhunter@gmail.com with the subject line "presentation."

Demonstrations
Proposals can be a one person or collaborative presentation demonstrating a particular skill, process, or style. General equipment for papermaking, printmaking, bookmaking, and laser cutting are available (studio and equipment specifications forthcoming) and Missouri Botanical Gardens will donate specific plant harvests. Demonstration sessions will be approximately four hours long, with groups of conference attendees rotating between demonstration sites. Techniques must be demonstrated from start to finish in the allotted time, however, the technique or process may be repeated several times within the session to accommodate a rotating audience. Any special needs must be discussed and approved prior to acceptance and demo. Proposals should be no more than 500 words, describing the process to be demonstrated and specifically detailing equipment needs. Projects
We are working directly with the businesses of Cherokee Street in St. Louis to offer conference participants opportunities for project spaces, pop-up exhibitions, and street performances on Friday, October 18. Friends of Dard Hunter members are invited to submit proposals for projects to our local community organizer. If your project is chosen, we will work with you to place your project in a space on Cherokee Street  as part of The Cherokee Street Gallery Walk on Friday evening of the conference. Proposals can include collaborative or individual artist projects or exhibitions. Projects can be from one night to several months in duration, depending on the host site. Please consider projects that are based on activity in the space and that generate creative output or provide a contribution to conference attendees and the surrounding community. Keep in mind that your participation in The Cherokee Street Gallery Walk involves a large commitment to planning, staging, maintaining, and deinstalling your project. Proposals should be no more than 500 words, describing the scope of the project and specifically detailing its public involvement.
