The
AIGA Design Educators Community announces a call for abstracts (for
papers and presentations) and readers (of abstracts) to AIGA members who
are interested in participating in a design education pre-conference
event on October 9, 2013, immediately prior to Head, Heart, Hand: AIGA Design Conference, on October 10–12, 2013, in Minneapolis, MN.
Prospective
presenters should be either graduate-level design students or design
educators who are developing speculative pedagogical approaches as well
as those who have applied successful models that align with one or more
aspects of the Head, Heart, Hand theme. Please submit a 300-word
(maximum) abstract (PDF) in narrative form and a separate 150-word
(maximum) bio (PDF) by email to Frank Armstrong at
farmstrong@csuchico.edu.
In the body of the email, please indicate an appropriate category
(Head, Heart or Hand) for your proposed paper/presentation; also your
full name, title and affiliation. Subject line of the email should be
"H3_ABSTRACT". Deadline for abstract submissions is March 31, 2013.
Prospective
readers should be full-time design educators who are actively engaged
in teaching and/or research that aligns with one or more aspects of the
Head, Heart, Hand theme. Please submit a brief letter of interest by
email indicating your preferred category (Head, Heart or Hand) and a
current CV (PDF) to Karen Zimmermann at
kzim@email.arizona.edu. Subject line of the email should be "H3_READER". Deadline for reader applications is February 28, 2013.
Submitted
abstracts will be reviewed by the DEC Steering Committee, which will
make its selections based on several factors including: evaluations by
the readers; quality, diversity and relevance of content.
Timeline for submission, selection and notification:
Reader applications due: February 28.
Readers selected and notified: March 15.
Abstracts submitted: March 31.
Abstracts distributed to readers: April 7.
Reader evaluations of abstracts submitted: April 30.
Presenters selected and notified: May 31.
Presenters submit full papers: August 31.
